Donal Wagoner, life-long farmer, stockman, dies at 89

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Donal O. Wagoner, 89, died Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at his home here.

He was born Oct. 6, 1918, in Pittsville, Mo., the son of W. A. and Emma ( Sparks ) Wagoner.

On Dec. 18, 1938, he and Dorothy Gieseke were married in Warrensburg. They had been married for 60 years when she died Dec. 20, 1998.

Mr. Wagoner was a graduate of the Centerview High School and became a farmer and stockman. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Warrensburg, ASCS Committee of Johnson County, and a board member of the Farmers School for many years.

He was also a member of the Elks Club # 673 of Warrensburg for more than 50 years. With the help of his wife, he organized Mt. Moriah 4-H Club. He was a member of the board of Quarry City Savings & Loan. Mr. Wagoner was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include a son Mark Wagoner and wife, Nancy, of Camden Point, Mo.; a daughter Janet Smith and husband, Hugh, of Centerview; grandson Roger Wagoner and wife, Karen, of Platte City, granddaughter Debbie Brockhoff and husband, Jim, of Camden Point, grandson Dale Smith and wife, Luci, of Warrensburg, and granddaughter Brenda Ford and husband, Andy, of Clinton; great-grandchildren Megan and Emily Wagoner, C.J. and McKenzie Brockhoff, Lauren, Clint and Kara Smith, Tyler and Connor Ford; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Gerald and Norman Wagoner; and two sisters, Pauline McCoy and Emma Jean Andrew.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2008, at the Sweeney-Phillips and Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.

Dr. Pete Beard will be officiating.

Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery . Pallbearers are Hugh Smith, Roger Wagoner, Dale Smith, Andy Ford, Steve Andrew, Dave Andrew, and Jim Brockhoff. Honorary pallbearers are Tyler Ford, Clint Smith, Connor Ford, C. J. Brockhoff, Allen Wagoner, Larry Wagoner, and Jerry Thomas.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Johnson County Fairgrounds and may be left in care of the funeral home.
