Melba Perkins, 43-year resident of Kingsville, has died at 87

KINGSVILLE, Mo. -- D. “Melba” Perkins, 87, of Kingsville, died Sunday, June 15, 2008, at her residence.

Doris Melba Perkins was born Aug. 27, 1920, in Eureka Springs, Ark.,, the daughter of Fred L. Oliver and Mary E. Crews Oliver.

She graduated from high school in Eureka Springs and married Clifford O. Perkins Nov. 8, 1946, in Kansas City, Mo. The couple made their home south of Strasburg, Mo. from 1950 until they moved south of Kingsville in 1965.

Melba was employed with the Avon Corp. at one time. She especially enjoyed time spent with her family. She was a member of Strasburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, L. “Susie” Fuimaono of Kingsville; three sons, Roy Perkins and Karen of Holden, Clifford “Wayne” Perkins also of Holden, and Fred Perkins and his wife, Judith, of Kingsville; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Melba was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff, in 1997; a son-in-law, Tony Fuimaono; a brother, Glen, in infancy and a sister, Ruth, in childhood.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2008, at Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden, with the Rev. Preston Sanders of Strasburg Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Kingsville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Perkins, Andy Perkins, Gary Fuimaono, Matt Fuimaono, Tony Fuimaono, III and Jeremy Crocker. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be left to the Strasburg Baptist Church.
