NEW YORK (AP) -- Two former Bear Stearns managers have surrendered to face criminal charges linked to the collapse of a hedge fund that bet heavily into subprime mortgages before the market collapsed, federal authorities said Thursday.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Stocks tumbled Wednesday amid renewed concerns about the financial sector and after FedEx Corp. warned that weakening demand and surging fuel costs would weigh on fiscal 2009 profits. The Dow Jones industrial average fell below the 12,000 mark for the first time since mid-March and, along with the other major indexes, showed a decline of more than 1 percent.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Corn prices crept closer to an unprecedented $8 a bushel Wednesday on concerns that damage to cornfields from Midwest flooding is worse than once thought, which could drive up the price of food.

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The office of two female superheroes looks fairly normal, situated at the end of a strip mall on Burkarth Road. Molly Hout and Mary Nussbaum don’t wear capes, but in the four months between Jan. 1 and May 1, the women "saved" more than 1,000 lives.
