WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Central Missouri State University employees qualifying for early retirement after Dec. 31, 2006, will retain limited health benefits over a 10-year period following action today by the university's Board of Governors.

The board approved a proposal presented by CMSU President Aaron Podolefsky that will gradually phase out a 2002 university policy that provided full health insurance benefits to individual early retirees. Under the new policy, the university will continue to provide individual coverage for those taking early retirement during 2007 for up to five years or until they reach age 65. Beginning in 2008, the university's contribution to premiums will be reduced annually by 10 percent through 2016.

Qualified retirees who retire after Dec. 31, 2016, will be eligible to participate in the university's health care plan by paying the full cost of the established premium for pre-Medicare retirees.

The governors approved a bid of $98,657 from Dynatron Elevator Co., Shawnee, Kan., for the upgrade of the South Yeater residence hall elevator. Roof replacement bids were approved from Godard and Sons Roofing, Blue Springs, $193,518 for Foster-Knox residence hall; Weathercraft, Inc., Jefferson City, $227,310 for the Dockery Building and $41,154 for the Art Annex. A bid of $928,092 was accepted from Reasbeck Construction, Warrensburg, for the W. C. Morris Science Building phase I chemistry lab and stock room; and $216,677 to Amatol, Jeffersonville, Ind., for the computer intergrated manufacturing system.

Officers elected for 2006-2007 were Lawrence Fick, Columbia, president; Deleta Williams, Warrensburg, vice president; and Jennifer Hill Nixon, Warson Woods, secretary. Monica Huffman, special assistant to the president for board and office operations, will serve the board as assistant secretary, and John Merrigan, university controller, will serve as board treasurer.
