The team has two sets of siblings: Ryan and Andrew Marks, and Geoff and Josh Fernquist. Ryan received fourth place at State on Tuesday by shooting a 153, just four strokes behind the leader.
Their freshmen brothers have been only a few shots behind. Head coach Guy Albert has seen the siblings’ positive effect on the team.
“There’s a really good sense of camaraderie,” Albert said. “The brothers have an intense competitive spirit with each other.”

Geoff and Josh Fernquist learned the game from their father, UCM sociology professor Robert Fernquist. Geoff qualified for state as a sophomore last season.
“Goeff is very consistent,” Albert said. “He’s really competitive. He wants to be the best, and he likes to beat everybody.”
Conventional wisdom suggests freshmen may struggle during their first high school golf season. Geoff said Josh’s confidence has led to his success.
“Josh has been consistent about managing his game,” Albert said. “He has a really positive attitude."
