KANSAS CITY, Mo. - An award-winning TV show produced in Kansas City is seeking national network syndication and looking for area talent to join its cast.
Steve & Kathy Gray, producers of the "Steve and Kathy Show," are hosting auditions for the best local comedians, actors, singers and musicians May 31 at the World Revival Church campus, beginning at noon.
The Steve & Kathy Show is already broadcast nationally, with a potential audience of more than 16 million viewers. The show airs on 12 stations in 16 major cities on Christian Television Network; in New York City, and in Stanford, Conn., on GCN. The show can also be seen on Sky Angel 2, Direct TV, Channel 376, and in Kansas City on KCWE Channel 29.
The show garnered 29 Telly Awards in its first season and could be considered for national network syndication. Although the show won an unprecedented number of awards given to a faith-based program, the creator and executive producer wants to take it to the next level.
"If I want to take the show to the Hollywood producers, I need to raise the talent level," says Steve Gray, the show's creator and executive producer. "There's a lot of opportunity to put a faith-based program on the networks and The Steve & Kathy Show could be considered. I want to gather the best of Kansas City 's talent to make a historical program."
The 30-minute variety show, hosted by the Grays, features original comedy skits, music and dramatized testimonies. "I'm doing 90 percent of the writing," says Gray. "If I want to reach more people, I need to add more cast members and talented writers to round out and broaden the show's appeal."
"Right now, it's a volunteer position, but the performers and writers get national exposure to their work and a chance to hone their craft," says Gray. To get a feel for the show, they should go to YouTube to see how the skits are climbing in views and steveandkathygray.com. Finalists will join the Steve & Kathy Gray cast for 13 episodes. Applications are due May 27. To sign up for auditions, you may go to steveandkathygray.com or call (816) 763-0708.
