Missouri Boys State hosts variety of speakers

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee will kick off the 69th annual session of The American Legion Missouri Boys State by accepting the 19th annual George W. Lehr Memorial Speakers Chair and delivering the keynote address at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 14, in Hendricks Hall on the University of Central Missouri campus.

Public seating for Huckabee's address is limited. A $50 per plate dinner will precede the address, with those attending the dinner receiving a ticket to attend the address in Hendricks Hall. Only those with tickets will be seated for the address, in addition to the Boys State citizens. For ticket information, contact Missouri Boys State at (816) 792-5100.

Huckabee's address will open the week-long session, planned for June
14-21, that brings nearly 1,000 young men from across the state to UCM
for a participatory experience in government. The George W. Lehr Memorial Speakers Chair was established in 1988 as part of the 50th Anniversary celebration of the Missouri Boys State program. The Lehr Chair honors the late Missouri State Auditor George W. Lehr, a Boys State participant and a tireless supporter of the program.

Also speaking to the 2008 session of Missouri Boys State will be Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon, who will speak at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 15, U.S. Congressman Kenny Hulshof at 6:50 p.m. Monday, June 16, and Missouri State Treasurer Sarah Steelman at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday, June 17. Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 19, and U.S. Air Force General Norton A. Schwartz will speak at 7 p.m. Friday, June 20.
