HOLDEN, Mo.--Visitors were able to get an idea of Civil War combat, when the Holden Area Chamber of Commerce and the city hosted a free Civil War reenactment Saturday and Sunday, at the Holden City Lake.

The reenactment was a maximum effort event sanctioned by the Missouri Civil War Reenactor’s Association. The hosting unit was the Missouri 2nd Artillery.

The two day event allowed participants downtime to relax as well.

Elijah, a participant from Licking Mo., took time to pose for the camera.

Adding to the authenticity of the event was the collection of period pieces that participants brought along with them.

Participants brought along collectibles. Pictured here is a saber from 1860.

Musician Bob Welch, performed songs from the Civil War period for participants.

Those involved were able to take time and pose for a photographer taking black and white period pictures.

Jean Cadenbach, from Rolla Mo., took care of the horses while also allowing visitors to get in on the process.

A series of tents were erected to house the participants.

Participants slept in tents set up to mimic the period.
