WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Powell Gardens, located at 1609 NW U.S. Highway 50, in Kingsville Mo., hosted the Festival of Butterflies, Aug. 7-9, where guests were able to experience the many types of butterflies, flowers and planned activities.

Gianni Louisa, 7, from Lenexa Kan., attended the festival at Powell Gardens, Aug. 9, and took time to admire a visitor.

Monarchwatch.org, a conservation and research Web site based out of the University of Kansas, was one of the sponsors for the event.

The festival, celebrating the beauty of butterlies, also featured many types of flowers.

The festival allowed visitors the chance to experience all stages of a butterfly's development. Pictured here is a cocoon.

Monarch butterflies are the only species which make a full, two-way, migration south during Winter. Here, one hangs upside-down on a branch.

A butterly takes time to perch on a leaf after flying over visitors' heads.

Samantha Costigan, 9, from Adrian, Mo., partakes in one of many organized activities by concentrating on painting a pot.
