SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP)--One Springfield man died and another was hospitalized after their boat capsized on Pomme de Terre near Humansville in Polk County.

The Missouri State Water Patrol says 79-year-old John Smith and 76-year-old Albert Warner clung to their capsized boat for about 40 minutes Wednesday before two other boaters found them and towed them to shore. Smith was declared dead at the scene and Warner was hospitalized.

The water patrol says the men tried to put on life jackets after the boat capsized but the one Smith was trying to put on floated away.
