WARRENSBURG, Mo.--Warrensburg and Johnson County have had their fair share of hit-makers, and a 1450 AM KOKO disc jockey is collecting those hits in a CD that will spin during the “New Harmonies” exhibit.

“A lot of these people I know, worked with and know very well,” said DJ Ronn McKay. “So, that gives me some insight into them.”

His program, “Ronn McKay’s Forgotten Oldie of the Day,” airs three times during the day, Monday through Friday. He intends to feature local artists the week of Oct. 5 to 9 as well as the following three Tuesdays.

McKay is also drawing from a collection of some 45,000 records to compile a disc of local tunes. He will introduce and speak about the songs, simulating a live broadcast of about an hour or longer.

“You can’t play ‘em all,” he said. “There’s a bunch of them.”

Such as Wayne Narron and the Blazers from the 1950s. McKay said Narron still works in town and “is a good guy and a good guitar player.”

Johnny Nace, father of David and Jimmy Nace of the Nace Brothers Band, will be on McKay’s disc, along with Lorenzo Manley, who still lives in town. Shawn Pelton, the longtime “Saturday Night Live” drummer and Warrensburg High School graduate, may not make the disc.

“I’ll sure talk about him if nothing else,” McKay said. “That guy is brilliant."
