Looking at these guys, you may not guess that they are part of a successful rock band, but they are. Sonny Remlinger, Joe Remlinger, and Benn Bluml are the members Super Black Market, a punk rock band from Warrensburg. They have even been featured on the front page of The Kansas City Star.

"We like to think that our kind of music is just rock and roll," Sonny Remlinger said. "Our music is really just high-energy rock music that is influenced by different genres like pop punk, heavy metal, hardcore, and punk rock."

The band mates have traveled all over the Midwest, touring from Missouri to Colorado, and North Carolina to Texas. They have covered a variety of venues and are always looking for a place to showcase their music.

"It's interesting what kind of setups we have played; some shows have been in the basement of someone's house, some have been at 500-person capacity venues," Remlinger said.

You may be asking yourself, "Super Black Market? What does that mean?"

They have a message to spread through their music; they want to share their opinions on the injustices of society. They chose the name because they felt that it was the depiction of the music industry today.

"The innocence in music has been lost, for the most part, and everything seems to revolve around what can be bought and sold quickly and easily."

Remlinger made the point of image in the music industry, which is why the band made one of its videos to make this statement.

Their song "There's Going to be a Party," off their first album "Will Sell Anything," has a theme reminiscent of the '80s movie, "Teen Wolf."

"We had to do a lot of work to get it done, but it was well worth the trouble," Remlinger said.

The music video, like the movie, is about an unpopular and struggling band; however, the moment they turn into werewolves, they are popular and successful.

"The point that is so intriguing about the movie is that people around the wolf seem to immediately accept him, where as in real life, he would be in a laboratory, but that's the fun in all of it," Remlinger said.

Super Black Market is creating its second album, which is anticipated in Fall 2008. They write all of their songs and are featuring a cover of "Wonderland," by the band Oasis, on the upcoming album.

"That is a rarity for us, but has definitely been a fun song to cover," Remlinger said.
