Bessie Woody, 97, has died; her funeral will be Monday

WARRENSBURG, Mo.--Bessie L. Woody, 97, of Warrensburg, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at the Country Club Care Center in Warrensburg.

Bessie Lee Best was born June 8, 1912 in Chilhowee, daughter of Thomas S. and Lula I. (Wasson) Best. She married Homer H. Woody Dec. 26, 1930, in Warrensburg.

She was employed with Unitog at one time. Later, Bessie worked at University of Central Missouri. She was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She loved gardening and quilting.

Survivors include a daughter, Loretta Hughes and her husband, Frank of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a son, Darryl Woody and his wife, Cathy of Warrensburg; two sisters, Ruby Helphrey of Warrensburg and Dixie Crump of Leavenworth, Kan.; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, Homer; a son, Ronald Woody; three sisters, Bernice Blanchard, Juanita Hutchins and Gertrude Noland and a brother, Gilbert Best.

Her funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg, the Rev.Randy Crawshaw of Cumberland Presbyterian Church officiating.

Interment will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery, located south of Warrensburg. Pallbearers will be Brian Woody, Darren Minor, Andrew Minor, Darrek Kirkland, Chase Bohbrink and Steven Gregory.

The family will receive friends Monday at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until service time.
