Crest Ridge School Superintendent Jerry Hocker remembered by many for his leadership and devotion to education

MOBERLY, Mo. -- The funeral for Crest Ridge School Superintendent Gerald Lee "Jerry" Hocker was Tuesday afternoon here.
In his honor, the school dismissed early so faculty, staff and friends could attend the service at Million-Taylor Funeral Home.
Burial was in the Higbee City Cemetery. The family suggests
memorials to Boy Scouts of America or American Diabetes Association.
Mr.Hocker, 56, of Ashland, Mo., died Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, at University Hospital in Columbia.
He was born June 8, 1952 to James Irvin and Robert Jean Chism Hocker in Moberly.
Jerry was a graduate of Moberly High School and attended Moberly Junior College. He earned a B. A. in humanities from the University of Missouri and received a master’s in education from William Woods College.
Jerry was a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association, Ashland Masonic Lodge No. 156, AF & AM, and the Jacksonville O.E.S. He was a member of the Ashland Baptist Church.
He is survived by a son, Matthew T. Hocker, and a daughter, Elizabeth D. Hocker, both of Ashland; his father, James I.
and Letha Hocker of Moberly; one brother, Thomas E. and Karen Hocker; two sisters, Rhonda S. Hocker and Rebecca J. Hocker,
all of Moberly; a special friend, Pam Gordy; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his
mother and grandparents.
