'Dub' Livengood, 89, of Warrensburg, has died; funeral is Tuesday

WARRENSBURG, Mo.--The funeral for William J. "Dub" Livengood, 89, of Warrensburg, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg, with the Rev. Jerry Basye officiating.

He died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at Western Missouri Medical Center after a long illness of C.O.P.D.

Dub was born May 20, 1920, in Knob Noster, the son of Charles E. and Alice (Heidler) Livengood, the fourth child of a family of five.

He attended Walden grade school and grew up in the Greendoor neighborhood.

Dub was inducted into the military at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., in December, 1943. He spent 29 months in World War II, with 17 months spent overseas as a sergeant in the signal corps as a high-speed radio operator. He was awarded two battle stars. The last six months of his stay in Europe, he worked for the State Department at the American Embassy in Bucharest, Romania, until his discharge in May, 1946.

After returning home, Dub took advantage of the G.I. Bill and took agricultural training at CMSU.

He married Fleeta Burriss June 23, 1946, at the First Christian Church.

Dub and Fleeta bought and moved to their farm in 1950. They raised Black Angus cattle and had row crops. Dub was also self-employed in construction. Dub enjoyed country music and working with his flowers, which he enjoyed sharing with friends and family.

Dub is survived by his wife, Fleeta, of 63 years of the home; 3 sons: Alan Livengood and wife, Cindy, and Terry Livengood and wife, Debbie, all of Warrensburg, and Gary Livengood and wife, Michelle, of Raymore; 12 grandchildren: Micheal, Jesse, Erica, Vanessa, Amy, Christopher, Bradley, Vincent, Meloney, Aspen, Morgan, and McKenzie; 2 great-grandsons; 1 great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

Dub was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters: Gladys Brown, Margaret Brown and Ruby Sage; a brother, Howard Livengood; and a nephew, William Howard "Bill" Brown.

Burial will be in the Warrensburg Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Norman Patrick, Dale Reynolds, Gerald Stockton, John Brookshier, David Andrew and Roy Lee White. Honorary pallbearers are James and Jeanne Counts, Jim Bob and Pat Grainger, David Robinson, Clyde Fleener, Ray Carstensen, Ray Swisher and Dr. John Howard. Full military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 131 and V.F.W. Post 2513 of Warrensburg.

The family will receive friends Monday, Feb. 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Show-Me Christian Youth Home and may be left at the funeral home.
