Retired music professor Frederic Homan, 77, has died

WARRENSBURG, Mo.--Frederic W. Homan, 77, of Warrensburg , died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at Harmony Gardens Assisted Living in Warrensburg.
He was born Dec. 25, 1932, in Nevada , Mo., the son of Arthur Warren and Clara (Meservey) Homan.
He married Marilyn Rohrbach in Chillicothe , Mo.,May 28, 1970. She preceded him in death on September 10, 2002.
Dr. Homan was a graduate of the Omaha , Neb., High School and served in the U.S. Army.
Dr. Homan received his bachelor's degree from the University of Omaha and master's and Ph.D. degrees from Indiana University . He taught at Texas Lutheran College for two years prior to joining the music faculty of Central Missouri State College in 1962. He retired as professor emeritus of music in 2000. At CMSC, now University of Central Missouri, he taught theory and organ.
Dr. Homan was active on many committees and developed the book and music collection in James C. Kirkpatrick library. After retirement, he was a weekly volunteer at the library's information desk. In 2006, his long tenure teaching organ was honored by the McManis Organ in Hart Recital Hall was named the Frederic W. Homan and William E. McCandless Pipe Organ.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder and served as organist and choir director.
Survivors include two daughters: Darlene Austin and husband Bryce of Leeton, and Linda Joyce Eiskina of Warrensburg; 7 grandchildren: Misty, Brooke, Rebecca Rich all of Warrensburg, Laura Dozier of Lewistown, Mo., Rosina Headley of Warrensburg, Cory Whitman of Osceola, and Natasha Bott of Clinton; and 6 great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and 2 sons: Roger Homan on Nov. 10, 2001, and Dale Homan on Aug. 18, 2002.
His funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, at First Presbyterian Church of Warrensburg, with the Rev. Alex Wales officiating.
Burial will be in the Warrensburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery . Pallbearers are Bryce Austin, Matthew Headley, Bruce Austin and James Dosier.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the ALS Foundation and may be left at the funeral home.
