Virgil Hobbs, 92, has died; funeral is Monday in Kingsville

HOLDEN, Mo.--The funeral for Virgil Lee Hobbs, 92, of Raymore,will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 27, at the Kingsville Seventh-Day Adventist Church, with the Rev. Eddie Cabrera officiating.

Mr. Hobbs died Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at The Rehabilitation Center of Raymore.

He was born Nov. 20, 1916, in Kingsville, the son of Edward Fay and Ruth E. (Talley) Hobbs.

He graduated from Kingsville High School in 1933.

He married Ruth M. Burke Feb. 1, 1937, in Kingsville. She preceded him in death Oct. 4, 2003.

Mr. Hobbs lived and farmed in the Kingsville and Holden communities until moving to Lee's Summit in 1961. He also had operated a bulk distribution service for Skelly Oil Co. He had lived in Raymore since April 2005. He was a member of the Kingsville Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn L. Clark, Lee's Summit, and Patsy Willis, Grandview; one sister, Thelma Wesner, in Ohio; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Lee Hobbs, in 1951; and a great-grandson, Nathan Saunders.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Ben Cast & Son-Wood Funeral Home in Holden.

Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Holden. Pallbearers are Scott Young, Mike Saunders, Terry Saunders, Larry Saunders, Jeremy Young, Pat Edinger, Mark Edinger and Matthew Saunders.
