WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- A total of 81 drivers drew for starting positions for racing action. This weekend marked the last night of racing the modified drivers had to prepare for the Aug. 30 Labor Day weekend $3,000 to win Modified Special 40-lap feature. B-Modified, Street Stock, ULMA Late Model and Modified drivers all competed in qualifying heat races prior to the main events.

Chad Lyle won his second feature of the weekend, after a victory Friday night at Lakeside.

Rusty Trimble won his second of the year in the B-modified division, Brain Johnson took the checkered flag in the Street Stock main event and Brett Rollert won the ULMA Late Model class.

Warrensburg’s Chris Brockway won the first heat race of the night with Brian Ziegler and Michael King close behind. Heat race No. 2 had Rusty Trimble in the lead at the checkers, with Mark Evinger and Bryan Montgomery battling for second and third.

Heat race three was led by Jeremy Lile with his fourth heat victory this year, followed by Scotty Martin and Bobby Raybourn.

Brockway and Trimble led the field into turn one for the 15-lap feature, with Trimble moving into the early lead. Chris Stout spun out early in the race in turn two, with Trimble remaining up front on the re-start. Meanwhile, Martin started to work his way up through the top five after starting on the outside of row three.

On lap 13, Ethan Isaacs, Stephen Barber and Michael Mullins tangled in turn two, ending their night on the track. On the re-start, Trimble maintained his lead on the low side and Martin passed Ziegler on one of his patented inside moves to take second. In the end, Rusty Trimble of Kansas City hung on for his second feature win of the year with Martin second, Ziegler in third for a strong finish, Evinger fourth and Lile in fifth.

A large field of 20 Street Stock drivers raced their way into the feature race lineup through three heat races. In heat No. 1, Brian Johnson of Independence took his fifth heat win of the year, followed by Jerry Schmidt and Anthony Ward.

Heat two saw a first-time CMS winner with Dustin Gehlkin of Sedalia claiming the win ahead of Dale Atkinson and Michael Mullins. Chad Eickleberry won the third heat, with points leader Nic Bennett and Dean Wille, pulling double duty in a Street Stock and Modified behind Eickleberry.

The heat-race winners led the field into turns one and two for the 15-lap main event, with Johnson taking the early lead, just ahead of Gehlkin. A battle ensued for second with Gehlkin, Eickleberry, and Wille back and forth for the top spots behind Johnson. By lap 12, Wille moved up into the second spot after Johnson almost hit a tire in turn four.

Wille went side-by-side with Johnson on lap 14 and 15, but Johnson held on for his sixth visit to victory lane this year at CMS. Wille fought hard for the lead, but had to settle for second-place, with a strong finish for Gehlkin in third. Schmidt finished in fourth and Eickleberry slipped back into fifth.

Eighteen ULMA late models competed in three heat races, with Steven Clancy of Odessa taking heat No. 1 for his fourth of the season with Brett Wood second and Jake Williams from Lockwood in third.

Brett Rollert, the track champion from last season, took heat No. 2, followed by Chad Clark and Kevin Coyne in the Lanny Wineland machine. Heat three had Mike Ryun taking the checkers, with Bob King and Kevin Kaiser chasing him for the top spot.

Rollert took the early lead, with Clancy close behind. Clancy made his move on the low side for the lead early in the event, with Rollert tucking in behind him. Then Rollert made his signature move to the high side on a lap 10 re-start to pass Clancy and take the lead for the remainder of the race.

Then the action behind them heated up, with Ryun, Clark and King battling for the third spot. Ryun made his move late in the event into third, with Clark in fourth. In the end, Rollert maintained his lead into victory lane with his second feature win at CMS this year and his 18th career win at the track.

Clancy stayed in second, despite mechanical problem with a smoking machine. Ryun crossed the line third, with Clark fourth, King fifth, Wood sixth, Kaiser seventh, Williams eighth, track points leader Jon Binning ninth and Kevin Coyne rounding out the top 10.

Twenty- five modifieds competed in three heat races. In the opening race, Lone Jack driver Chad Lyle took his first heat win of the season, with Tim Karrick and Tom Charles fighting for second and third.

Concordia’s Dave Meyer won heat No. 2, followed by Joe Walker and Steve Twenter. Heat had Clinton driver Doug Walrath picking up his second heat victory this season, with Dean Wille and Terry Schultz in second and third. Lyle and Meyer led the field of 24 mighty ones into turn one, with Lyle leading the first lap with Meyer, Walker and Karrick working the track high and low just behind him for second.

Walker uses a nice high/low move around Meyer early in the race for second, but Meyer fights back for the spot. Then, on lap three, Walker spun out of turn four in front of Charles, Wille and Schultz, with no place to go for any of the drivers behind Walker.

Each had to leave the track for various mechanical problems, but Walker was able to go tail back and complete the race. By lap 10, Karrick worked his way around Meyer for the second spot, with Chad Staus Joey Lile leaving the track with mechanical problems.

On a lap 14 re-start after Ralph King went sideways down the front side wall, Lyle had Karrick challenge him for the lead on the low side. Lyle hung on to win his second feature of the weekend with his new Mick Lamb-owned modified on the first night out on the track at CMS.

Karrick looked strong in second, Meyer third, Matt Johnson moved up from a 14th-place start into a fourth-place finish, Lee Hibner was on the high side into fifth, Jason Thompson started 20th and finished in sixth, points leader Aaron Marrant in seventh, Josh Stephens eighth, Steve Twenter in ninth and Jimmy Dowell in 10th.

Pit gates open at 4:30, grandstand seating opens at 5; hot laps roll out at 7, with racing at 7:30. Special admission rates will apply for the races next weekend.
