Fort Hays thumps Jennies 79-60

HAYES, Kan. -– A big second half outburst by Fort Hays State sent the Central Missouri Jennies to their second conference defeat of the season, 79-60, Wednesday night at Gross Memorial Coliseum.
The Tigers outscored the Jennies 43-29 in the second period, including a 23-6 run midway through the half.
The Jennies (9-4, 4-2 MIAA) jumped out to a 10-3 lead just four and half minutes into the game, but the Tigers responded with a 16-3 run over the next four minutes to take a 19-13 lead.
Fort Hays State extended the lead to 10 at 30-20 with just under five minutes remaining. A quick 7-0 run by UCM cut the lead to three and the Jennies later tied the game at 31 with just over a minute to play. FHSU, however, scored the final five points of the half and went into the intermission with a 36-31 lead.
The Jennies started the second half just like the first and tied the game at 36 less than a minute into the period, but a 6-0 run by the Fort Hays State gave the Tigers a lead they did not relinquish. The Tigers' lead was six at 50-44 with 13:09 to go in the game, when FHSU blew the game open with a 23-6 run and coasted to the 19-point win.
The Jennies were led in scoring by freshman Taylor Hanson with 18 points on five three-pointers. Senior Katy Davenport chipped in 10 as the only other Jennie in double figures. As a team, UCM shot just 35 percent from the field, including 9-of-30 from behind the arc.
Kayla Klug led five Tigers in double figures with 17 points, while Erica Biel notched a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. The Tigers shot 51 percent from the field for the game.
The Jennies return home to the Multi on Saturday afternoon against Nebraska-Omaha. The game is slated for a 1:30 p.m. tip-off.
