Jennies fall to Bearcats 80-67

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies basketball team fell 80-67 at home on Wednesday to Northwest Missouri in conference action.
Central Missouri (7-8, 3-5 MIAA) scored first on a layup by Danielle Shows before Northwest Missouri took its first lead of the game at 15:59 on a three-point basket by Shelly Martin to put the score at 9-6. The Bearcats went up six points only to have UCM go back ahead on a layup by Shows at 11:19 to give the Jennies the 14-13 lead.
Deidra Dace extended the Jennies lead as she hit a layup at 10:51, only for NWMSU to come right back and take a one-point lead. Meghan Waggoner made a free throw at 9:33 to tie the game up for the fourth time at 17-17.
Northwest Missouri State ended the half strong, going on a 30-5 run in the last eight minutes of the stanza to take a 47-22 lead into the locker rooms.
The Jennies went on a 30-13 run in the middle of the second half to cut their deficit to seven points. Kara Fleming drained a shot from downtown with 4:18 on the clock to put the score at 70-64. Waggoner later made a free throw to put the Jennies within two possessions at 70-65 with 3:16 on the clock.
The Bearcats would end the game on a 10-2 run, to capture their eighth win of the season.
Waggoner recorded her first double-double of the season as she pulled down 10 boards and scored 15 points. Taylor Hanson collected 13 points, and Dace had 12.
Abby Henry from Northwest Missouri led all scorers with 27 points. Gentry Dietz recorded 19 and Shelly Martin had 10.
Central Missouri will return to the hardwood on Saturday when it hosts Missouri Western. Tip-off is at 1:30 p.m. from the Multipurpose Building.
