BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies soccer team kept its winning streak alive, pushing it to a season-high five games, with a 2-1 victory over Southwest Baptist on Monday at the SBU Soccer Field in Bolivar, Mo. This is the second time in a week that UCM has defeated the Bearcats.

The Jennies (11-5-2, 10-3-1 MIAA) have won 10 conference games for the third straight season and for the third time since soccer became an MIAA sport in 1999.

The first half of the game had all the action, as all three goals came within the first 40 minutes of play.

The Jennies took three shots within eight seconds, and one of them finally made it into the net. Kayla Shain’s shot was saved by the SBU goalkeeper and Alyssa Rhodes’ hit the post. Melanie Hall took the rebound and was able to capitalize by putting the ball into the back of the net in the 16th minute.

With this goal, Hall has a team-high 11 goals this season, two shy from her personal season high. She also has broke the all-time Jennies record for 38 goals in a UCM uniform, passing April Reyes (2000-03) and Teleshia Joseph (2001-03). Hall has moved up the conference record board as well, tied for fifth with those 38 goals.

Five minutes later, Kelsie Hanson scored the second goal and what proved to be the game winner. She now has two goals this season, tying her with the most goals by a freshman.

Southwest Baptist’s goal came off a corner kick by the Bearcat’s Kelly Isaac that was deflected off of a UCM player and into the goal.

Central Missouri collected 14 shots, five on goal, as Southwest Baptist took nine shots, three on target.

The Jennies will return to action on Thursday when they host Northwest Missouri State. First whistle is slated for 7 p.m. from the UCM South Recreation Complex.
