Jennies top Pittsburg State 75-62

WARRENSBURG, Mo.-- – With three players collecting double-figures in points, the Central Missouri Jennies basketball team defeated Pittsburg State, 75-62, Saturday in the Multipurpose Building.
With this win, the Jennies even the season series between the teams and snap a two-game losing streak against the Gorillas.
This win is the first victory this season for Central Missouri against a conference opponent that was higher in the standings than them.
Brittney Slifer nailed a shot from beyond the arc to start the game and put the Jennies (11-9, 7-6 MIAA) on the board. The Gorillas came right back, to take their first lead of the game with a three-point basket at 16:59 and go up by one, 6-5.
Central Missouri went on a 9-2 run to stretch its lead to six points at 14-8 with 13:24 left on the clock. That mini-run was led by Rebecca Roberts with three layups.
Pittsburg State had a 7-2 run to cut the Gorillas deficit to one point before tying it up at 18-18 on a three-point bucket with 8:15 left of the first half.
UCM came back to go on a 15-9 run that put the Jennies up by a 33-27 score with 1:27 on the clock. Pittsburg State cut its deficit down to three points, as PSU made a three-point basket as time ran out to head into halftime with a 36-33 Central Missouri lead.
The Jennies started the second half by extending their lead to five points on a layup by Roberts before allowing PSU to tie it up at 40-40 with 17:38 on the clock.
Pittsburg State was up by one when Meghan Waggoner hit a pair of free throws to go back on top, 44-43 with 16:01 to go.
Central Missouri extended its lead to seven on a pair of free throws by Deidra Dace at 9:07 to put UCM up 59-52. The Gorillas responded with three free throws of their own.
Pittsburg State came to within three points on a free throw at 6:56, before the Jennies went on a 14-4 run and endede the game with the 75-62 win.
The Jennies had three players in double-figures, as Roberts led all scorers with 19 points. She made nine shots from the floor, one short of a season-high. Taylor Hanson collected 15 points, all from three-point range--both are season-highs.
Waggoner made all 10 of her free-throws, as she recorded 12 points. Those 10 free throws made was a career-high.Danielle Shows grabbed 10 rebounds and Kara Fleming had six assists in the game.
Pittsburg State had three players in double-digit points as well, as DePrice Taylor collected 18, Maya Onikute had 13 and Drew Roberts recorded 10.
The Jennies will be back on the hardwood on Wednesday, Feb. 3 as they host No. 5 Emporia State. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. from the Multipurpose Building.
