Jennies volleyball goes 3-1 at PSU Classic

PITTSBURG, Kan. -– Jennies volleyball finished play with a 3-1 record Saturday at the Pittsburg State Classic in Pittsburg, Kansas. The Jennies, ranked 14th in the nation had swept matches against Abilene Christian 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-16) and 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-22) against Angelo State on Friday to open play in the event, but split matches Saturday. The Jennies fell 3-0 (26-28, 14-25, 18-25) to third-ranked West Texas A&M, before bouncing back for a 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-16) sweep of Newman University.

In Friday’s opening win against Abilene Christian the Jennies were led by 13 kills from Paula Harris and 11 from Allie Huffman. Caitlin Pankratz had a match-high 34 assists, while Rachel Fister had a match-high 25 digs. Carrie Peterson also chipped in 13 digs for UCM.

The Jennies were led by Harris and Huffman once again in the win over Angelo State as they each had 10 kills. Pankratz recorded her eighth double-double (31 assists, 11 digs) of the season, while Fister picked up 12 digs.

On Saturday’s loss against West Texas A&M, the Jennies were led by Kelsey Ortwerth’s 14 kills. Pankratz registered 28 assists and Fister had 18 digs. The Lady Buffs hit .373, while UCM hit .214. The Jennies committed 15 errors in the match, while West Texas committed eight.
The Jennies bounced back on Saturday with a win over Newman University. Huffman recorded 10 kills and eight digs in the contest, while Pankratz had a match-high 27 assists. Fister had 12 digs and Jaci Tenbrink chipped in 10.

The Jennies (18-5, 6-1 MIAA) will return to conference action Wednesday evening when they host Truman State at 7 p.m. at the UCM Multipurpose Building.
