AMES, Iowa – Squaring off against a field of Division I athletes, senior Kayla Muyskens posted the top throw of the day, winning the shot put, as the Central Missouri Mules and Jennies competed in day two of the Iowa State Classic.

Muyskens set a new personal best in the indoor shot put, recording a throw of 49’ 5.75”, more than a foot further than second place. The Yale, Iowa native beat out 22 Division I throwers, and met the automatic qualifying mark, earning her a trip to the NCAA Indoor Championships in March. Muyskens also placed 14th in the weight throw, with a mark of 53’ 1.75”.

Multi-eventer Lindsay Lettow picked up Central Missouri’s second qualifier of the day, placing 10th in the 400m dash with a time of 57.21. Lettow was the third-highest Division II finisher, and her time is the 14th-best in the nation this season.

On the men’s side, sprinter Ralph Watson earned a fifth-place finish in the 60m hurdles, coming up just shy of a new season-best, with a time of 8.1 seconds. In the women’s 60m hurdles, Erin Alewine placed 15th, also only a few hundredths away from improving on her season-low mark.

Pole vaulter Cori Whitson picked up a seventh-place finish with a 10’ 8.75” performance, as the lone Division II participant.

The Mules and Jennies wrap up the three-day event tomorrow, with 32 events on tap, beginning at 11 a.m.
