UCM cross country teams will finish fourth in MIAA, league coaches predict

WARRENSBURG, Mo.-- The Central Missouri Mules and Jennies cross country squads were both picked to finish fourth in the 2008 MIAA preseason coaches’ poll released this week. The Mules finished fifth in the MIAA last season, while the Jennies took home fourth place.

The defending champion teams from Missouri Southern were tabbed to finish first in both the men’s and women’s coaches polls. The Southern men received seven first-place votes and 49 points. Southwest Baptist came in second with 40 points (one first-place vote) and Pittsburg State was third with 38 points. The Mules were tied for fourth with Emporia State at 27 points each.

On the women’s side, the Lions received seven first-place votes and 63 points. Pittsburg State was second with 57 points (two first-place votes). Southwest Baptist was third with 50 points and the Jennies were fourth with 40 points.

Coaches ranked the teams in the order they expected them to finish. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.

The Mules and Jennies kick off their season Sept. 12 with the Central Missouri Mule Run. UCM will host the 2008 MIAA Championships Oct. 25.
