UCM sports in brief: Stones' goal lifts Jennies

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Central Missouri Jennies soccer team defeated Southwest Baptist 1-0 in double overtime Monday at the UCM South Recreation Complex. This is the third consecutive shutout victory for UCM against the Bearcats.
Jenna Stones scored the goal on a free kick after SBU was called for a foul about 10 yards outside the box. The shot bounced over all the players in the box and into the net for the game-winner, which was Stones’ first collegiate goal.
Lauren Bamvakais recorded five saves in net for the Jennies (9-5-2, 8-3-1 MIAA) in posting her eighth shutout of the season.
The Jennies’ win comes on the heels of a 4-0 shutout of Emporia State on Saturday.
Jens volleyball will be tested this week
The No. 4 Jennies, who stand atop the MIAA heap with a 12-1 mark, will be tested this week with two games versus ranked MIAA foes.
UCM (26-3, 12-1) will be at No. 9 Emporia State on Wednesday, for a 7 p.m. match. On Friday the Jennies will host No. 8 Washburn at 7 p.m. in the Multipurpose Building.
In their most recent match, Friday at Missouri Southern State, the Jennies swept (25-19, 25-18, 25-13) the Lions.
It was the 18th consecutive win for the Jennies, the longest such streak for the program since 1999.
Mules climb to No. 19
The UCM Mules football team was ranked No. 19 in the nation and No. 9 in its region following Saturday’s 49-31 victory over Nebraska-Omaha.
The Mules (7-2) host Missouri Southern St. at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Mules fourth, Jennies tie for sixth in MIAA cross country
The University of Central Missouri cross country squads competed in the MIAA Championships over the weekend at Emporia State, with the Mules finishing fourth and the Jennies tying for sixth.
Laban Sialo was the top finisher for the Mules in the 8K run, placing second overall (24:44.46) and earning MIAA Freshman of the Year honors. Dalton Moberly was 13th overall (25:45.51), while Brett Carter took 18th (25:54.05). Both earned honorable mention All-MIAA honors.
The Jennies were led by honorable mention All-MIAA finisher Brooke Buerky in 20th (23:12.91) overall. The next highest finisher in the 6K run was Kacy Hession in 26th (23:33.95).
Missouri Southern took both the men’s and women’s titles, while Pitt State was second in the men’s and Truman second in women’s action.
Central Missouri will be back on the course at the NCAA Division II South Central Regional in Abilene, Texas on Nov. 7.
