OSAGE BEACH, Mo. – Sgt. 1st Class Damon Gates, of Warrensburg, was recently awarded the 2.0 Write Rate Award for his service with the Missouri Army National Guard’s recruiting team.

Gates enlisted 24 new soldiers into the Guard over fiscal year 2008, averaging two new enlistments a month. The task was especially remarkable because Gates was transferred from Clinton to Warrensburg this year, said Master Sgt. Bradley Kohler, the noncommissioned officer in charge of recruiting area three.

“He had to reestablish himself in a new market with schools and communities,” Kohler said. “In addition, Sgt. Gates successfully completed both phase I and phase II of basic noncommissioned officers’ course during this same training year.”

Gates has been in the military for 12 years. He was in the Marine Corps for four years prior to joining the Guard.
