Oct 23, 2009, 11:34 AM

WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. – A Nuclear Operational Readiness Inspection (NORI) was conducted at the 509th Bomb Wing, at Whiteman Air Force Base, Oct. 11 - Oct. 23, by inspectors from the Air Combat Command (ACC)/Inspector General.

Oversight was provided by representatives from the Air Force Inspection Agency and the Air Force Safety Center.

The results from the inspection revealed that the wing remains certified to perform its strategic mission, and received a rating of excellent during the inspection.

“I am very proud of the 509th performance during the NORI,” said Brig. Gen. Robert E. Wheeler, 509th Bomb Wing commander. “It shows that we are ready for combat across the spectrum of conflict.”

NORI’s are extremely detailed and demand high standards of compliance and accountability. There is no margin for error in operations within the Nation’s nuclear enterprise. The benefits of the careful examination are paramount to the reliability of the nuclear enterprise.

ACC has increased the intensity, depth and rigor of all inspection activities, to include NORI’s, to ensure that every aspect of a unit’s mission is thoroughly examined.
