WHS track teams qualify in state events at Jefferson City

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The Warrensburg track team traveled to Jefferson City over the weekend for the state track and field championships, where they qualified in five events.
Kyle Smidt placed 14th in the shot put, and the 4x800 boys' relay team consisting of Jeff Markworth, Shawn Watters, Ryan Hurr, and Joe Duensing finished 16th.
"They did not run as well as they wanted, but still finished their season with determination and took 16th overall," head track coach Wiley Meade said.
Both Briana Carter and Faith Raulie received All-State honors in their events. Carter placed fifth in the 100 meter dash, and took sixth in the 200 meter dash with a personal best time of 25.86. Faith Raulie entered the meet as the
12th-ranked high jumper on the girls' side, set a personal record of 5'2", and tied for fourth place. These two girls scored a total of 11.5 points and placed 19th in Class 3A as a team.
Meade said that his team should be proud of what they accomplished this year.
"There just are not very many events in the state of Missouri that are as special as the state track and field championships held every year in Jefferson City, and our athletes reflected that attitude.
"This was the first trip to state for all of these young men and ladies, but they did not let this hold them back. They all rose up and did their best effort. They represented the city of Warrensburg, their school, and their own
families both on and off the track in a first class manner. The whole coaching staff is very proud of them all. Those returning for next year are already thinking of returning to Jeff. City and hoping for more of their
teammates to join them!"
