SEDALIA, Mo.--Smith-Cotton’s pressure defense proved too much for the Warrensburg Lady Tigers in a 43-29 loss Saturday.
Warrensburg (3-16) won the tip-off, but lost the ball many times throughout the game, due to multiple steals and turnovers.
Smith-Cotton sophomore Lexi Hope, who led with 13 points, nailed three 3-pointers in the first quarter, aiding Smith-Cotton (14-7) to a 16-7 lead headed into the second quarter. Smith-Cotton maintained the lead throughout the game and led 27-13 at the half.
Warrensburg’s Michele Fitzgerald paced the Tigers with eight points.
“The first quarter, we let them score too many points, but the rest of the game, we played pretty well,” Warrensburg head coach Keith Chapman said. “I think we made a stride tonight. We’ve got to keep competing and learn how to eliminate mistakes.”
