WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The Warrensburg Lady Tigers suffered their first defeat of the season, 3-1, at the hands of the Harrisonville Wildcats Monday.

Warrensburg fell to 2-1 on the year, and is back in action Tuesday at O'Hara.

All of the scoring versus Harrisonville came in the first half.

Warrensburg coach Chris Thompson said in a release that the Wildcats used a "perfectly weighted" pass that split the Tigers' central defense for the first goal. Kendra Fox answered with Warrensburg's goal, tying the score. But the Wildcats answered with two goals from Anna Holden before intermission.

“The Holden girl is fast and quite a ball striker," Thompson said. "They used her well and counter-attacked effectively well all night.”

Warrensburg's Kaitie Whitney shields Harrisonville's Anna Holden from the ball. Holden scored the final two goals of the game.
Thompson said the Tigers developed a more consistent attack once they made some adjustments.

“We held the ball a bit long at times and didn’t switch the point of attack as well as we need. Our weak side outside midfielder has to be utilized to stretch the field horizontally," Thompson said. "We were also reluctant to play the ball into the corners and let our striker run onto it. Once we did that we kept good pressure on them, as they just kicked it out and conceded deep throw-ins. It’s a bit ugly, but you have to take what your opponent gives you.”

Thompson said the game was a good early-season test.

“We are just starting to figure out how best to utilize our tools offensively and we played an opponent that spent the winter together and is closer to mid-season form," he said. "Ultimately it took one of the best passes you’ll see and two bombs to beat us.”
