WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Of 23 applicants, the most ever received in Johnson County, one was chosen. One lucky family will be given a house with the opportunity to make it a home.

The family selection committee of Habitat for Humanity of Johnson County named the Nielson family as the future recipient of a Habitat home.

The Nielsons are Deborah Nielson, her nephew Josh, and her three daughters, Danielle Petifued, Bobbie Nielson and Andrea Petifued.

Now that the family has been selected, the building of the house can start. The house will be built with materials purchased with donated funds. The First Baptist Church in Warrensburg is a major financial contributor to the construction of this house.

The Nielson family will work with volunteers from the area, providing "sweat equity" to build the home on West Gay Street.

Once the home is complete, Habitat will sell it for no profit to the family with a low-cost mortgage. The mortgage payments will help finance future Habitat homes.

The local affiliate was organized in 2001 and has completed two homes in Warrensburg, one in Holden, and two in Knob Noster.
