WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The congregation at First Baptist Church in Warrensburg was treated to a visit July 6 by the head chaplain for the U.S. Air Force, Maj. Gen. Cecil R. Richardson, to commemorate the patriotic holiday.

Decorated with the national colors and American flags, the stage was set at FBC for an Independence Day weekend celebration focusing on loyalty to God and country. The Worship Team performed the Star-Spangled Banner as well as inspirational hymns, ensuring the fully-packed congregation was in high spirits for Richardson’s presentation.

Senior Pastor Bob Ingle said Richardson’s visit was significant for the church and the community during the holiday because the challenges America is facing make faith in God and patriotism important.

With a comfortable and easy-going manner, Richardson spoke to the audience about trusting their faith in God and what the nation stands for. He used the story of Job in the Old Testament, in which Job is put through a series of life-shattering trials that test his trust in God. Like Job, Richardson said we need to be certain that there is a bigger plan in store for all of us and trust God’s will.

“No matter what we go through or how hard things may get for us, God always has a way to get us through it and make us grow,” Richardson said. “Likewise, we have to trust our nation’s leaders.”

Clifton Wise, associate pastor of administration, said Richardson’s visit to FBC was significant for the church’s large military members and was a perfect fit for the Independence Day holiday. He said the goal of the presentation was to “focus on patriotism and love of our country, just underneath our love for God.”
