WARRENSBURG, Mo.--A Johnson County grand jury has indicted a Knob Noster woman on charges of attempted statutory rape in the second degree.
Melissa Anne Whisenhunt, 39, of 633 Valley Hill Drive, is accused of using the internet in an attempt to get a 16-year-old boy to meet her in Centerview to have intercourse.
The boy's family had contacted the Johnson County Sheriff's department. Deputies used the boy's computer to contact Whisenhunt. Deputy Steven L. Edwards posed as the youth in emails between April 22-26.
Sheriff Chuck Heiss said Whisenhunt was arrested June 27 by Knob Noster police, although three of his deputies had been involved in the investigation.
If convicted, the woman could face a maximum sentence of four years and/or a fine of $5,000.
The prosecutor's office recommended a bond of $5,000.
