Man who turned in grandson for 'Precious Doe's' death dies

MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP)--A man who turned in his grandson for the killing of a 3-year-old girl known as "Precious Doe" has died.
Thurman Harrell McIntosh died Saturday. He was 86.
McIntosh was credited with providing a break in the case of "Precious Doe," a little girl whose decapitated body was found in a wooded area of Kansas City, Mo., in 2001. She was later identified as Erica Green.
McIntosh told community activist Alonza Washington in 2005 that he recognized the girl as the daughter of his grandson's girlfriend.
Harrell Johnson was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole. Erica's mother, Michelle Green, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and received a 25-year term.
A funeral for McIntosh, a World War II Navy veteran, is scheduled for Friday in Muskogee.
