WARRENSBURG, Mo.--When alcohol compliance checks were conducted in July by the Warrensburg Police Department and the University of Central Missouri Department of Public Safety, only one of 20 Warrensburg businesses sold alcohol to a minor.

John Harrington, an officer with the WPD, and Gary Schmidt, UCM Department of Public Safety, participated in the compliance checks.

Harrington said 20 establishments were checked, and one arrest was made. Kassandra L. Schnell of Warrensburg, an employee of Nathan's Bar and Grill, was charged with two counts of selling/supplying liquor to a minor.

The five establishments visited on Pine Street after 11 p.m. asked for identification at the front door and would not allow the undercover minors to enter.

He also noted that the other 19 establishments visited requested identification and did not sell alcohol to the undercover minors.

The purpose of these checks, conducted July 11, was to assess the level of availability of alcohol to minors within the community, and prevent the sale of alcohol to them.

Two underage buyers, working under the supervision of local law enforcement, went into businesses that hold liquor licenses and attempted to purchase alcoholic beverages.

These projects were supported by funding made available through the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Formula Grants Program administered by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Missouri Department of Public Safety.
