City seeks comment on liquor licensing changes

(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) — The city is seeking feedback for a proposed amendment to its liquor licensing requirements.

The city plans to offer three main types of licenses: package sales, liquor by the drink (all kinds) and tavern licenses for only beer and wine by the drink, according to a news release. Other specialty licenses would remain unchanged, including catering, nonprofit picnics and civic organization licenses.

The public is invited to provide comments prior to the City Council’s action on the matter Sept. 24.

These changes were prompted by recent changes at the state level regarding liquor licenses. The state changes also “shifts focus for age/entrance requirements away from the type of state license held to the type of operations being conducted at the licensed premises,” according to a news release.

The proposed amendment was read for the first time during the council’s Aug. 27 meeting.

The amendment also addresses liquor service by bed and breakfast establishments.

A copy of the draft ordinance amending Chapter Three is available for review on the city’s website, www.warrensburg-mo.com, or at City Hall, 102 S. Holden.
