Frances Kay Mahon

Frances Kay “Fran” Mahon, 71, of Warrensburg, Missouri, died Monday, Dec. 3, at Warrensburg Manor Heath Care Center.

Fran was born on June 17, 1947, to Major (USAF) Donald E. Patterson and Mary “Mickey” (Pyle) Patterson, in Wright-Patterson AFB, Akron, Ohio. As her father was transferred several times during his military career, she lived for extended times in Fairborn and Wilmington, Ohio; Rapid City, South Dakota; Blytheville, Arkansas; and ultimately, Warrensburg, Missouri. She graduated from Warrensburg High School in the class of 1965. It was in high school where she met Anthony Neal Mahon. They continued on to study at Central Missouri State University together, and they married on Aug. 11, 1968, at First Christian Church. They welcomed their first son, Matthew, in 1969. She continued her education while raising a family and graduated from CMSU with a bachelor’s degree in speech pathology. They were later blessed with two more sons: Christopher in 1972 and Andrew in 1976.

Fran was a real estate agent with Century21 and DeLozier, both of Warrensburg. She was a lifelong member and supporter of First Christian Church. Everyone knew her as a talented and avid gardener, and she was most proud of her daylilies.

Fran was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Anthony Neal Mahon, and her parents.

Fran is survived by her sons, Matthew Brian Mahon, of Warrensburg; Christopher Justin Mahon, of Warrensburg; and Andrew Bradley Mahon, of Lee’s Summit, along with his daughters, Ryleigh Madison and Piper Aisling. In addition, Fran is survived by her sister, Sylvia Anne Patterson-Scott (Mr. Beverly C.) of Indianapolis; two nephews, Jonathan Matthew Scott (Melissa) and Robin Andrew Scott (Ahrim Kim); and one great-niece. She was a loving and devoted mother and later the steadfast caretaker of both her former in-laws, Paul and Dolan Mahon, and of her own parents in their last years.

A funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 10, at First Christian Church of Warrensburg with Pastor Jerry Basye officiating. Interment followed in Sunset Hill Cemetery.

The family received friends Sunday, Dec. 9, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home.

Contributions may be made to either the First Christian Church or Meals on Wheels and checks can be left in care of the funeral home.
