(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) – Alice Greife, dean of the College of Health, Sciences, and Technology at the University of Central Missouri, has been named a Distinguished Fellow of the American Industrial Hygiene Association.

Greife was one of 43 new Distinguished Fellows who will be recognized for significant contributions to the field of industrial hygiene at the AIHA Conference and Exposition on June 4 in San Antonio, Texas. The Fellow classification is limited to no more than five percent of the AIHA membership.

“The Fellow designation has become a mark of excellence and achievement for AIHA members,” said AIHA President Barbara J. Dawson, CIH, CSP. “Members chosen to be Fellows have been nominated by colleagues in the profession because they represent extraordinary accomplishments and contributions to the profession and to AIHA. It is both a privilege and pleasure to congratulate this year’s Fellows on behalf of Awards Committee.”

Greife received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and Master of Science degree in industrial hygiene from UCM and Ph.D. degree in environmental health from the University of Cincinnati. She began her career in public health as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Public Health Service assigned to the Centers for Disease Control. In 1980 she transferred to the Division of Surveillance, Hazard Evaluations, and Field Studies in Cincinnati. In 1990 she was named director of the Division of Standards Development and Technology Transfer and for the new Education and Information Division.

In 1996, Greife retired from the Public Health Service and joined the faculty at University of Central Missouri as a professor of industrial hygiene. She was named chair of the Department of Safety Sciences and Technology in 2000 and interim dean of the College of Applied Sciences and Technology in 2002. She assumed the post of dean of the college in 2003, leading the college through reorganization as the College of Health, Sciences, and Technology.

Greife and her husband, John Zey, are residents of Warrensburg. They are the parents of two daughters.
