Greta Marlene Loehr, 79, of Warrensburg has died; funeral is Aug. 29

(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) – Greta Marlene (Zink) Loehr, 79, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at Western Missouri Medical Center.

She was born Tuesday, June 13, 1933, in Knob Noster, Mo. the fourth of nine children of Don Nicholas and Lucy Agnes (Fuller) Zink.

Greta was a member of Our Lady of Presentation Catholic Church in Lee’s Summit, MOo

She attended elementary school in Knob Noster, graduating the eighth grade from Union Point Country School in Leeton, Mo.  Greta was a 1951 graduate of Leeton High School and then attended secretarial college in Kansas City, Mo., and Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg.

On Saturday, July 3, 1954, Greta married Cloyce Paul Loehr at her parents’ home in Leeton, Mo. Being an Air Force wife, she traveled with her family to where Paul was stationed in the U.S. or overseas including Whiteman AFB, Mo.; Shaw AFB, S.C.; Fairbanks, Ark.; Hahn AFB, Germany; Minot, S.D.; Davenport, Iowa; and always returning to their home in Warrensburg.

Greta was employed every where she went. Her experiences were many, working for a prosecuting attorney, as well as other law offices and university professors and a Coast Guard judge. The path of her federal civil service career included various military departments, treasury, IRS, and finally retiring from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, Office of Counsel in June 1994.

Throughout her life she was a member of various organizations, generally holding an office in most including Bowling League; TOPS; NARFE; AARP; Eastern Star; Cooking Club of America; and Den Mother – Boy Scouts.

Greta is survived by one son, Kevin R. Loehr, wife Julie, and children, Garrett Paul, Austin James, and Hunter Marie Loehr, of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; two brothers: M. Jesse Zink, wife Nancy of Rolla, Mo.; and Don W. Zink, wife Lorene of Warrensburg; two sisters: Anna Lou Zink and Mary Sue Norris, both of Warrensburg; 22 nieces and nephews; 38 great nieces and nephews; and 17 great-greats.

She was preceded in death by her husband Paul Loehr in 1984; parents Lucy A. in 1986 and Don N. Zink in 1989; brothers Dean Fuller Zink in 1931; W. Nick Zink in 1945; W. Neal Zink in 1988, wife Teddy in 2005; and brother in-law, Carl Norris in 2005.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warrensburg, with father Joseph Miller, C.PP.S., officiating. Pallbearers will be Nick Zink, Bryan Zink, Travis Zink, Rob Arnold, John McCannon, Rod Krewson and Wayne Mieser.

Interment will follow at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Missouri State Veteran’s Home in Warrensburg and can be left in care of Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.
