Janice Marie Van Winkle

Janice Marie Van Winkle, 66 of Warrensburg, Missouri, died Monday, Oct. 9, at her daughter and son in-law’s home in Higginsville, Missouri.

Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14 at Knob Noster Restoration Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ with Elder Michael Brown officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Honorary Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Janice was born April 7, 1951, in Independence, Missouri, the daughter of Thomas J. and Alberta F. (Taylor) Steele. She graduated from Truman High School in Independence. She resided in Independence prior to moving to Warrensburg, over 40 years ago. Janice was united in marriage to Dennis Lee Van Winkle on March 30, 1979, in Knob Noster, Missouri.

She was employed with Central Missouri Community Credit Union for the past 22 years. In years past, she was very active in Boy Scouts and Warrensburg Youth Center. Janice coached multiple sports teams for her children and grandchildren. She also loved doing all sorts of crafts, tending to her flower beds, spending time with her grandchildren, and most of all watching whatever sport her grandchildren were playing.

Survivors include her husband, Dennis; daughter: Tammy Trahern and husband, Corey of Higginsville, Missouri; three sons: William Dunkin III, and Chad Dunkin, both of Warrensburg; and Tony Van Winkle of Knob Noster; stepson: Johnny Van Winkle and wife, Sally of Clinton; parents: Tom and Alberta Steele of Knob Noster; sister: Alisha Johnson and husband, Todd of Warrensburg; brother: Timothy Steele and wife, Diane of Sedalia; seven grandchildren: Harley Dunkin, Chad Dunkin, Jr., Austin Parrott, McKenzie Parrott, Corey Van Winkle, Dylan Van Winkle and Amber Van Winkle; and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Rebecca Steele, in infancy and Jeanne Lion; and two brothers: Tom Steele and Don Steele.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14 at the church.
