Jennies fall to Tigers in MIAA Tournament championship

(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) —  Jennies soccer (15-2-4) fell to Fort Hays State (14-6-1) 2-1 in the MIAA Tournament Championship Sunday afternoon at the South Recreation Complex.

Fort Hays State claimed the MIAA Tournament title and the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA-II Soccer Tournament with the victory.

The only two goals, until the Tigers got the game-winner in the 107th minute, came in the first 10 minutes of the match. Fort Hays State’s Jordan Hester received a short pass from Bethany Keefer just two minutes into the action and slid the ball into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.

The Jennies answered right back just seven minutes later when Aaryn Burke controlled a rebound off the goal and hammered it home to knot the match up, 1-1.

Both teams battled to a stalemate the final 81 minutes and the match went to extra time.

The Jennies and Tigers battled the first extra time period with neither team able to score, sending the match into a second extra time period.

The Jennies got what looked to be the match-winning goal in the 103rd minute when Alexis Robbers headed home a free kick from Jenna Stones, but Robbers was whistled for being offside. The Tigers then drove down the field and Joanne Glynn scored to give the Tigers the 2-1 victory.

Central Missouri out-shot Fort Hays State, 23-13, and had a 13-4 corner kick advantage.

Jennies goalkeeper Morgan Hartzler took the loss, dropping her record in-goal to 8-1-2.

The Jennies will now await word to see if they receive an at-large bid to the NCAA-II Tournament. The selection show is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday on NCAA.com.
