Joseph ‘Ray’ Embrey

Joseph “Ray” Embrey, 80 of Kingsville, Missouri, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, at his home.

Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9 at Kingsville Baptist Church with Rev. Phil Hopper of Abundate Life Church in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, officiating.

Interment will follow at the Holden Cemetery with Military Graveside Honors provided by Holden Veterans of Foreign Wars, Memorial Post 5844; Munday-Hancock Post 90, American Legion; and United States Army Honor Guard.

Ray was born Jan. 20, 1937, in Pilot, Grove, Missouri, the son of Joseph Eugene Embrey and Martha Elenora (Woolledge) Embrey. He graduated from Pilot Grove High School and served in the United States Army. Ray was united in marriage to Lavond Hobbs on Nov. 21, 1958, in Blackwater, Missouri. The couple resided in Blackwater for several years. Next, they made their home in LaMonte, Missouri. Ray was a heavy equipment operator for several companies throughout this time. The couple eventually moved to Pleasant Hill, Missouri. During this time, he started Kingsville Redimix Plant and also, Ray Embrey Excavating. In 1973, they moved to an acreage south of Kingsville, Missouri. Ray enjoyed horseback trail riding in years past, fishing, riding his Harley, and more recently, his Honda Gold Wing Trike.

Survivors include his wife, Lavond; four children: Ralyne Fleeman and husband, Clayton of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; Dorsey Embrey and wife, Dawn of Lone Jack, Missouri; Kelly Embrey and Kimberly Embrey, both of Kingsville; sister: Joann Fenical of Booneville, Missouri; brother: Rex Embrey and wife, Terri of Stantonville, Tennessee; seven grandchildren: Ashlin Owensby and husband, Toby of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; Zach Fleeman and wife, Courtney of Broomfield, Colorado; Coleman Embrey and wife, Ernestina of Albuquerque, NM; Barak Embrey of East Troy, WI; Macey Embrey of Monett, Missouri; Cindy Embrey and fiance, Dalton Odneal of Lone Jack, Missouri and Cat Embrey, also of Lone Jack; and two great grandchildren: Mae Owensby and Cora Joe Owensby.

The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until service time, Monday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Serenity Care Hospice.  Arrangements entrusted to Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden.
