Mary Ann McCoy, 71, of Leeton, died Monday, Sept. 10 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park, Kan.
She was born March 23, 1941, in Leeton, the daughter of Bacil and Mae (Mohler) Thomas.
On April 10, 1959, she was united in marriage to Wilford Leroy McCoy in Warrensburg.
Mary Ann was a 1959 graduate of Leeton High School. She worked at Unitog for 25 years before becoming an in-home health care aide. Mary Ann also ran a daycare out of her home for several years. She was a certified nurse’s aide at the hospital before becoming a health aide at the Leeton Schools where she was employed for the last several years. Mary Ann and her husband, Wilford, were master foster parents of Johnson County for several years and cared for 66 foster children in their home. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning, decorating cakes, quilting, and was a member of the Warrensburg Church of the Brethren.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Wilford of the home; daughters Rowena LaFavor, Emma Jones and husband Allen, all of Leeton; sons David McCoy and wife Carrie of La Monte; Tim McCoy and wife Kathy of Desoto, Mo.; five adopted children, Theresa McCoy of Fort Lewis, Wash.; Danny McCoy of Ohio; Rosie McCoy of Naches, Wash.; Donnie McCoy of Fort Leonard Wood; and Stephanie McCoy of the home. She is also survived by three brothers, CJ Thomas of Kansas City; John Thomas of Leeton; and Ed Thomas of Gainesville, Va.; one sister, Laura Johnston of Boulder, Colo.; 15 grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Wilma (Tommy) Davis and Marie Gibbons. She lost a brother in infancy, Charles Lawrence.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15 at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg with Pastor John Thomas officiating. Pallbearers will be the grandchildren.
Burial will follow at Mineral Creek Cemetery in Leeton.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Show-Me Christian Youth Home or the Leeton R-10 School District and both can be left in care of the funeral home.
