Mules football has 12 players named All-MIAA

(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) — The Central Missouri Mules football team had 12 players named to the All-MIAA Team, including freshman defensive end Josh Powell earning Co-MIAA Freshmen of the Year honors, as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning. The Mules had five players named to the conference’s second team, three players earned third team honors and four players earned honorable mention accolades.

Powell earned Co-MIAA Freshmen of the Year honors along with Emporia State running back Antonio Brown. Powell finished the the year with 25 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. He was named MIAA Player of the Week for his three-sack performance in the homecoming win over Northeastern State. He also earned honorable mention all-conference honors on the defensive line.

Second team honors went to senior wide receiver Ronrei Lloyd, sophomore offensive lineman Brian Berzanski, senior kicker Zach Gebhardt, junior defensive lineman Ramond Hunter and sophomore linebacker Ricky Spratley. Third team honors went to junior quarterback Hayden Hawk and junior running back LaVance Taylor. Taylor was also the third-team honoree at kick returner. Honorable mention accolades went to Powell, junior tight end Cullen Rosine, junior offensive lineman Justin Manu, and senior linebacker Zach Quines.

Lloyd earned his second straight All-MIAA honor after leading the Mules and ranking fourth in the MIAA in receptions with 69 and second in the league with 1,222 receiving yards. His 11 touchdowns were the third most in the conference. His 69 catches were the fifth most in a single-season in school history, while his 1,222 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns were second and tied for fourth most in a season, respectively. He finished his career second all-time at UCM with 2,192 receiving yards, fourth all-time with 19 receiving touchdowns and tied for fifth with 131 career receptions.

Berzanski earns his first All-MIAA honor after starting every game at left tackle for an offense that ranked fourth in the league in total offense and second in passing offense.

Gebhardt earns his first all-conference honor after he was second on the team in scoring, making 7 of 8 field goals and 44 of 48 extra points. His 87.5 field goal percentage led the league. He also averaged 60.4 yards per kickoff and recorded 21 touchbacks. His 43.0 yards per punt average on 18 punts would have led the league, but he didn’t meet the minimum requirements for number of punts. He earned MIAA Player of the Week honors following the homecoming win over Northeastern State.

Hunter also earned his first all-league accolade. He started every game at defensive tackle, registering 37 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss and four sacks.

Spratley earned his first All-MIAA honor this season at linebacker. He started all 10 games and led the Mules with 84 tackles, including 6.5 tackles for loss. He had four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

Hawk earned third team honors in his first season as starting quarterback. He led the MIAA averaging 303.4 passing yards per game, while completing 68 percent of his passes. He threw 29 touchdowns and was fourth in the league in pass efficiency. His 3,133 yards of total offense, 3,034 passing yards and 29 touchdowns are all third most in a single-season in UCM history. He earned MIAA Player of the Week honors for his performance in the win at Central Oklahoma.

Taylor earns his second straight all-conference honor after earning honorable mention accolades last season. He rushed 131 times for 721 yards and five scores and also pulled in 28 passes for 266 yards. He also earned third team honors as a kick returner. He averaged 35.2 yards per return, best in the MIAA in third best in all of NCAA-II and had two returns for touchdowns.

Rosine earned the first All-MIAA honor of his career with honorable mention honors after hauling in 29 receptions for 257 yards and four touchdowns.

Manu also earned honorable mention accolades for his first all-conference honor. He started the final nine games of the season at right tackle for the league’s fourth rated offense and second rated passing offense.

Quines earns his first all-conference nod following his senior season. He started in seven games this season, registering 30 tackles with three tackles for loss. He had three interceptions and returned two of those picks for touchdowns.

The Mules finished the 2013 season at 6-4 overall and 5-4 in MIAA play. It was UCM’s seventh straight winning season and the 15th in the last 16 years.
