Mules sweep MIAA Football Player of the Week awards

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Fresh off their 31-21 win over No. 3 Northwest Missouri on Saturday, the Mules football team swept the MIAA Player of the Week Awards. Quarterback Colter Smith was named Offensive Player of the Week, linebacker Joe Carter was Defensive Player of the Week and punter Matt Jordan was named Special Teams Player of the Week.

Smith had a career day going 28 of 44 for 301 yards and four touchdowns. He had scoring strikes of 62, 16, 15 and four yards to help UCM snap a nine game losing streak to the Bearcats. He had two touchdowns passes in the second quarter that would prove to seal the victory for UCM.
Carter had a career high 13 tackles, including one tackle for a loss. After Central Missouri took a 14-7 lead he picked off a Trevor Adams pass and returned it to the NWMSU 10-yard line to set up a UCM field goal.

Jordan punted eight times for a total of 355 yards averaging 44.4 yards per punt with a long of 53 yards. He helped the Mules win the field position battle all game. He had five punts downed inside the 20 yard line including three punts inside the ten. He added two punts on the game that were downed inside the two-yard line.
