Opal Nadine Sullivan

Opal Nadine Sullivan, 101, of Warrensburg, died Friday, Oct. 12 at the Benchmark Healthcare Center in Raytown, Mo.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20 at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg with the Rev. Randy Crawshaw officiating.

Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.

She was born Sept. 10, 1911, near Pittsville, Mo., the daughter of William Thomas and Annie (Smith) Baker.

She was united in marriage April 30, 1936 to James J. Sullivan in Lexington, Mo. Together they raised her sister Earline Lamonte’s daughter Bettie Ann Lamonte Lynn. He preceded her in death on April 6, 1963.

Nadine was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Warrensburg; a past commander of the U.S. Army Mothers; treasurer of the American War Mothers; past president of the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 2513; past president of the Older Adult Transportation System; a commissioner of the Housing Authority for eight years; a board member of Meals on Wheels; a member of the Show Me Regional Board Agency on Aging; treasurer of the Johnson County Council on Aging; was awarded Citizen of the Year by the Johnson County Council of Aging in 1977; a member of the Orphan’s Home Rebakah Lodge No. 135 as treasurer; Roberta Rebakah Lodge No. 297; and a social member of Royal Neighbors of America Camp No. 6932.

Nadine is survived by one grandson, James Lynn and wife Marion of Kansas City, Mo.; four granddaughters: Amy Weston of Kansas City, Mo.; Carrie Cooper and husband Ty of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; Sara Lynn of Bangkok, Thailand; and Jean Dunn and husband Pete of Annapolis, Md.; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Bettie Ann Lamonte Lynn in June 2004; five sisters, Neomia Kinder, Lucile Adams, Jessye Redd, Gladys Correll and Earline Lamonte; and six brothers, Carl, Glenn, Hubert, Ralph, Gale and an infant brother.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Warrensburg and can be left in care of the funeral home.
