Phillip C. Weinberger

Phillip C. Weinberger, of Montserrat, Missouri, died Sunday, June 10, at the Warrensburg Manor Care Center.

At his bedside were his wife, Kelly; daughter, Morgan; son in-law, Harrison; and close friends, Neldra and Randoe.

Phil loved all types of music, and had over 30,000 songs on iTunes that he listened to all the time. He loved live music and went to one of the grooviest events in music history in Bethel, New York, where close to a half million people showed up at the Woodstock Music Festival in 1969. The closing performance by Jimi Hendrix was a rambling, rocking solo guitar performance of “The Star Spangled Banner.” Phil, an avid music lover, died peacefully while listening to his favorite songs at the age of 75 years old.

Phil was born Aug. 21, 1942, in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, the son of Jacob and Bess (Courtney) Weinberger. Phil was inspired at a young age by his dad to become a doctor. He wanted to be Dr. Weinberger just like his dad, and he did.

Dr. Phillip Weinberger, M.D., graduated from Mercersburg Boarding Academy, Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, an all-boys high school in 1962. Upon graduation, Phil joined the United States Air Force and completed basic training in San Antonio, Texas.

He was first deployed to Port Moresby, New Guinea, where he proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1966. He loved picking up the beautiful seashells on the ocean, brought them back to the United States, and made a wonderful display of them for his home.

Phil attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical School, where he was among the first class of graduates. After completing his residency he practiced urology in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Later he moved to Kansas City, Missouri, and practiced at Trinity Lutheran Hospital.

Eventually, Phil moved to Warrensburg and began to practice. Weinberg retired as a urological surgeon in Sedalia, Missouri, ending a career of more than 30 years of dedicated service to his patients and the community he loved.

Phil proposed and married the love of His life, Kelly Frankum, on June 4, 2006. They were united in
holy matrimony at their Montserrat Vineyard. Phil loved his wife, family, nature and his Winery.

After retirement, the Montserrat Vineyards & Winery became his passion and he treasured all the friends he made along the way. Kelly was his partner and together. They hosted many events at Montserrat Vineyards: weddings, graduations, festivals, local clubs and businesses during their 12 years together.

Phil and Kelly loved everything about nature and were both avid dog lovers. They had a special affinity for their United Field Trailers Association, National Champion Dog and Best Friend, Dottie. They could be seen walking together on a cool summer evening with Dottie on the Montserrat Estate.

Recently, Phil and Kelly rescued two donkeys, Chardi and George. One of Phil’s most recent and
memorable recollections was his excursion to the Whiskey Ridge Rescue Farm to visit Chardi and George.

They brought so much joy to Phil and he loved touching and rubbing them fondly. Two pigs were also
added to their animal collection, and a new barn is being erected on the Montserrat Estate for them. Phil’s visit to Whiskey Ridge, his adoration, his smiles and genuine happiness at the rescue farm were priceless memories that will always be cherished and remembered.

It was not uncommon to find Phil and Kelly on early mornings together enjoying beautiful sunrises and all that nature had to offer. Sunsets at Montserrat are also breathtaking, and the two love birds often enjoyed sitting on the deck, quietly enjoying the splendor of the moon and the stars at their lake home.

Phil had an abiding love of God and his majesty. He and Kelly loved going on Saturdays to the Synagogue to worship.

During the past few months, Phil enjoyed the staff and friends he made at Warrensburg Manor and
Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care. Phil’s view from his room was scenic and beautiful, simulating his beloved Montserrat. The gazebo and bird bath were his favorite places at the manor.

Kelly decorated his room to embody all the warmth of home, and she was with him each and every day to bring joy and laughter into his life away from home. Phil enjoyed all the special celebrations Kelly planned for him while at Warrensburg Manor. He especially loved their 12th wedding anniversary celebration.

All his family and close friends as well as many of the manor staff attended. He thanked each personally for coming. He was overwhelmed by the outpouring of love that day. He knew that he was loved.

Phil will be deeply missed by his loving and devoted wife, Kelly, of Montserrat; two daughters, Alexa Pircio (Michael), Morgan Frankum (Harrison Bron); one brother, Richard Weinberger (Lori); granddaughter, Stella Pircio; two nephews, Paul Weinberger and Ned Weinberger (Meredith); and a host of other family and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, consider a memorial contribution to Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care Foundation, which can be sent in care of Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home.
