Sam Allen Stout

Sam Allen Stout, 77, died Thursday, Dec. 6.

Funeral services for Mr. Stout are 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9 at Ben Cast & Son – Wood Funeral Home in Holden, Mo. Cremation will follow the services.

The clergyman is Pastor Bob Sims, and the honorary pallbearers are Daniel Stout, William Stout, Jeff Stout, Stoney Stout, Dustin Stout, Jeremy Stout, Joey Derose, Shawn Stout, Ian Stout and Zachary Stout.

Visitation is 2-3 p.m. Sunday with military honors by Holden American Legion and VFW Posts.

Mr. Stout was born Oct. 12, 1935 in Holden, the son of Eugene and Effie (Shore) Stout. He went to grade school at Stout School for eight years and attended Holden and LaTour high schools. He graduated from LaTour High School in 1943. He was drafted into the U.S. Army the following January and was discharged in March 1946. He did basic training in California and was sent to New Guinea as a teletype operator.

He married Marjorie Joan Knight in June 1948 in Clinton, Mo. They were the parents of eight children, Carrol Gene, David Allen, Karen Kay, Nita Rae, Charles Raymond, Danny Lee, Kandi Renae, and Billie Marie.

Sam farmed all of his life and raised beef cattle and hogs. He was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church, Holden American Legion Post 90, and VFW Post 5844.

Preceding him in death were his parents and three brothers, John, Stanley, and Roy (killed in action at Normandy during World War II), and grandson, Casey Ray Johnson.

He leaves his wife, Joan, eight children, 21 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Raymond.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Salvation Army.
