Steven Glenn Elwell

Steven Glenn Elwell, 64, of Knob Noster, Missouri, died Oct. 5, at KU Medical Center.

Funeral services were 10 a.m. Oct. 11, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg. Interment will follow in Knob Noster Cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Oct. 10 at the funeral home.

Steve was born May 8, 1954 in Montserrat, Missouri, the son of Glenn and Mary (Ross) Elwell.

On Nov. 26, 1977, he and Jo Ellen McAllister were united in marriage in the La Monte Baptist Church. Steve was a very loving and attentive husband, father and grandfather. All who knew him knew his selfless commitment to providing for his family in each endeavor.

Steve was a heavy equipment operator for most of his life. He was a member of the union Local 101 out of Kansas City, Missouri. He did auto body work on the side. Big Daddy Motorsports was an important part of his life for 6 years where he was able to mentor and support his family and other members of the team.

Steve enjoyed weekend breakfasts with family and friends at the Panther Steakhouse in Knob Noster. He loved getting out to ride his Harley and staying in to watch westerns.

Steve is survived by his wife, Jo Ellen; his children, Steven (Sandy) Elwell, Jr., Lance (Shane) Elwell, and Mary Jo (Kyle) Judd, all of Knob Noster; and his grandchildren, Stevie and Travis Elwell, Lane and Morgan Elwell, Joshua Meyer and Kylie and Garrett Judd. He is also survived by a brother, Larry (Laura) Wilson of Shawnee, Kansas; his mother-in-law, Mary Allen of Knob Noster; a sister-in-law, Tina (Roger) Werneke; and a nephew, Trenton Werneke.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Mary Elwell, two sisters, Dorothy Rehmer-Williams and Betty Chaney-Neil, and a brother, Tommy Wilson.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and can be left in care of the funeral home.
